“We aim to contribute to the ‘key green energy materials’ of Taiwan, forming a green energy R&D settlement in southern Taiwan that is internationally visible and distinctive!” The Hierarchical Green-Energy Materials Research Center (Hi-GEM) was established in 2018 to study and promote green energy materials, focusing on solid-state cells, secondary batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells, fuel cells and integrated energy system. Since 2019, we have published three international Green Energy English-language books, published with the world’s leading academic publishing group, Taylor and Francis (CRC Press), and marketed them worldwide to effectively exert the international influence of National Cheng Kung University in academic research and technological innovation.
The Center’s research objectives align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG7 affordable clean energy, SDG8 appropriate jobs and economic growth, and SDG9 industrialization, innovation, and infrastructure. Tran Ngoc Thanh Thuy, an assistant researcher at the center, notes that every year, not only the original members but also experts from home and abroad are invited to contribute articles based on global trends. In the future, professors from the departments of resources, architecture, environmental engineering and chemical engineering will be invited to join the research and development of green energy materials.
